random thoughts and admirations

I just wanted to take a minute to say:
I love Calvin Trillin.

He kills me.

If you dont already know, Trillin is the bright and witty writer who has worked as a journalist, a humorist, a novelist, a versist (poetic license for, 'someone who writes verse'), a gourmetist (poetic license for, 'someone who writes about food'), and a drown-alexis-in-envy-ist (self-explanatory) for the likes of Time Magazine, The Nation, and The New Yorker.
Yeah, I feel kind of sick now, too.

If you're not familiar with his work, Google him. There's a ton out there.
And if you have the chance to get your hands on his recent poem,
"I Dreamt That George W. Bush Adopted James Frey's 3-Step Program--Denial, Larry King and Oprah--To Get to the Truth About the War in Iraq,"
do it.
It's fantastic.
It's on The Nation website but you have to be subscriber to get the full text.

And while I'm on the topic of The Nation, here's a shout out to Ari Berman who gave up his blog, The Daily Outrage, and beautiful New York City to work in D.C. as one of The Nation's contributing writers.
Sometimes i can't believe the people that come out of our Iowa cornfields.
Ari's working hard to make that Iowa corn, and the rest of the nation, blue for 2008, so he deserves many thanks.
His latest story, All DeLay's Children, is in the June 19th issue.

One last thing: a moment of awe for George Plimpton.
I know. Random.

Participatory journalist, oral historian, athlete, actor, Paris Review founder...
The dude freakin rocked.
I want to be like him when I grow up.

Now pass me my binky.

Hey! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog.

Is it hard to set up your own blog? I'm not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I'm thinking about creating my own but I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thank you

I'm really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays.
